Radio broadcaster Macquarie Radio Network (MRN) has reported a $5.97 million net profit for the first half of the 2010-11 financial year.
The result for the six months to December 31, 2010 is up 95 percent from $3m recorded in the previous corresponding period.
Strong growth was also recorded in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) of 78 per cent to $9.6m, which is the company's best first-half result.
The group, which owns and operates Sydney's 2GB2CHand Melbourne's MTR stations, saw total revenue rise 28 per cent from 23.6m this time last year to $30.1m.
As the Sydney radio market increased revenue by 8.5 per cent, MRN simultaneously lifted its share of Sydney revenue from 21 per cent up to 26 per cent.
In the latest radio survey, 2GB secured a 14.3 per cent share of listeners in the Sydney market. This was assisted by popular breakfast announcer Alan Jones, who dominated the early morning timeslot with a 17.7 per cent share.
"Whilst the growth rate of the sydney radio market has slowed, we continue to outperform our competitors and increase our revenue share," said Russell Tate, MRN's chairman.
"Notwithstanding our commitment to a significant marketing spend over the next six months, our extremely strong first half and the positive forward outlook gives us confidence that we will now deliver full year consolidated earnings growth of at least 35 per cent."
Earnings per share increased 95 per cent to $0.08 per share. The company's broad also declared an interim fully franked dividend of $0.05 per share, up 25 per cent year-on-year.
